What does a guy have to do to get some respect around here? Ron Santo, a Cubs fixture on the field and now the booth, missed the HOF by a whopping 5 votes this year, getting 69.5% and needing 75%. Santo is now voted on by the HOF Veterns Committee. These Veterans (a.k.a. Grumpy Old Men) have left Santo out – again. This was the Veterans committees’ third vote since they were created. Guess how many people these guys have voted in: 0. About the same chances the Cardinal’s have of winning another game at Wrigley this year! GO CUBS!
Well, Sadly Cubs fans, Ronnie Santo didn’t make it. However, on a bright note, this article mentions the POSSIBLE disbanding of the Grumpy Old Men over at the HOF. This includes Hall Of Fame broadcasters, writers, and players. At least some former Cubbies stuck up for Ronnie,
“Former Cubs Williams, Ernie Banks, Bruce Sutter and Ryne Sandberg no doubt were in Santo’s corner, but they didn’t have enough votes to put him over the top.
“I talked to Ernie (Banks) yesterday,” Williams said. “Everybody involved, maybe we’re a little partial toward him because we were teammates, and I really thought the credentials that he has, he deserves to be in the Hall of Fame.”
