(BB)– Cincinnati
The Cubs chances for an 162-0 record was dashed yesterday at the Great American Ballpark in Cinncinasty. I guess we’ll have to settle for 161-1 now.
Rough Start for Z in ’07 Opener
Well, yesterday was opening day, I took the day off to watch my Cubbies begin their Championship season. However, what I saw reminded me of the ’06 Cubs instead of a World Series caliber team.
BEARDED BEARS THOUGHTS: We got our first look at Soriano who went a respectable 1 for 4. A healthy D – Lee went 2-3 and a walk. Barrett didn’t get off to a stellar start by going 0-4. Zambrano has pitched better games for sure. The dagger had to be the two home runs hit by Dunn. We got lucky that right before Dunn hit his second homer, a runner was thrown out going for two on a wild throw to Lee. Lee, himself, was tossed out trying to steal second. Bad call whoever sent Lee on that pitch.
The biggest number that stuck out in my mind today, was the 8 runners left on base. Come on guys! This is reminder of typical Cubs baseball – waiting for the long-ball. The Reds left 9 runners, but, they got the long ball from Dunn, and he had 3 RBI’s himself.
So, now that the pressure of the undefeated season is no longer on the Cubs minds, now they can put all their focus on the division, the playoffs, and finally, the WORLD SERIES. GO CUBS!
